How to track a hockey game on Apple Watch
Apple Watch can keep the whole game sheet while your phone stays in the bag. This is the full setup, from install to the post-game read.
Steps
Download Hockeywise on iPhone and Apple Watch
Install Hockeywise from the App Store; it needs an Apple Watch and an iPhone. There is no account to create.
Calibrate once
Spend two minutes recording shots and face-offs so the watch learns your wrist.
Wear the watch under your glove
Check your league rules on watches. Hockeywise never buzzes or lights up during play and has nothing to tap.
Start a skate at warm-up
Tap start on the watch. Shifts, whistles, shots, face-offs and falls are found as they happen.
End the skate and open the sheet
The sheet syncs to your phone. Read the shift strip, shots by type, bench recovery and the coach’s note, or export the game as CSV.
Hockeywise is not in the App Store yet; it launches in early 2027. Join the waitlist and we email you the day it is live.
What ends up on the game sheet
Shifts with their length and intensity, shots and face-offs by type, falls, heart rate, estimated distance and top speed, and bench recovery after every shift. Pro+ Insights adds a coach’s read of the game and season trends.
Battery and fit
The watch streams motion and heart rate for the whole game. Charge it before you leave, and measure your own drain on a normal game; a drain figure for Hockeywise will be published once it has been measured across real games.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track a hockey game with just an Apple Watch?
Yes. The watch records the game and syncs it to your iPhone afterwards, so the phone can stay in your bag.
Does Hockeywise upload my games?
No. There is no account and no server; games live on your phone and watch, and a build check fails if networking code is added.
Where can I download Hockeywise?
