Privacy policy
Hockeywise has no account and no server. Your games stay on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and nothing is uploaded to us.
Draft for owner approval. Not in effect yet.
What the app keeps, and where
Hockeywise stores your skates, shifts, shots, face-offs, falls and heart rate on your iPhone and Apple Watch. Your watch sends each finished game to your iPhone over the Apple Watch connection. Coaching notes are written on your iPhone from your numbers, never in the cloud.
There is no account, no sign-in and no Hockeywise server. The app has no analytics, no ads and no third-party SDK. A build check fails if networking code is added to it.
Health and motion data
With your permission, the app reads these from Apple Health: heart rate, resting heart rate, active calories, past hockey workouts, VO2 max, heart rate variability and cardio recovery. It saves each skate to Health as a workout. It uses the motion sensors in your Apple Watch to find shifts and to count shots, face-offs and falls. It does not ask for your location.
This data stays on your devices. We never receive it and we cannot see it, so it is never sold or used for advertising. You can change the Health permissions at any time in the Health app.
When something does leave your device
- You share it. A CSV export, a game sheet image, a Tell your team invite or a detection log goes where you send it from the share sheet, and only when you tap share. The detection log is off until you turn it on in Settings. We see a log only if you send it to us.
- Apple checks your subscription. That is the only thing the app itself puts online.
- Your own Apple backups. If you use iCloud Backup or keep Health in iCloud, Apple stores that data under your Apple Account, by your settings. We cannot read it.
- Apple reports to us. App Store reports show us totals for downloads, trials and purchases, including which campaign link a download came from. If you turned on Share With App Developers in iOS settings, Apple can also pass us crash reports and usage figures. These reports do not name you, and none of them comes from code in Hockeywise.
Purchases
Apple handles every purchase through the App Store. We never see your card or your Apple Account details. The app reads your plan from StoreKit on your iPhone and passes your plan status to your watch.
This website
This site has no analytics, no cookies and no ads. The company hosting it can keep standard request logs, such as IP address, page and browser.
The waitlist form is the only thing on this site that asks you for anything. If you join, your browser sends your email address and a label for the page you joined from to buttondown.com, our mailing list provider. Your address goes to that provider and nowhere else. We use it to send one email at launch, plus the odd rink note, and you can unsubscribe in one click. Your address is not connected to the app or to your games.
Children
Hockeywise is for players aged 13 and older. We do not check ages, and the app has no account to check them with. The waitlist is for people aged 13 and older too. If a child under 13 joined it, ask us through Support and we will remove the address.
Deleting your data
Delete a skate from your skate list in the app. Delete the app from your iPhone and Apple Watch to remove what it stored there. Workouts saved to Health stay in Health until you delete them there. We hold no copy, so we cannot restore a deleted game.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, we update this page and its date. Questions go to Support.
