What HockeyTracker does well
HockeyTracker is the established name. It has years of releases, about a thousand ratings at 4.7, a goalie mode and a price that matches Hockeywise Pro. If you only want shift lengths and heart rate on a wrist app that is already in the store, it does that.
Where Hockeywise goes further
It stops at the shift. It does not count shots or face-offs, and its own 27.0 and 27.0.1 release notes say watchOS 27 made indoor skating speed inaccurate, so indoor speed and distance now come from GPS where a rink has a signal and are hidden where it does not. Hockeywise reads the whole game: shifts, shots by type, face-offs, bench recovery and a coach’s note on where you faded.
Everything on the Hockeywise sheet is worked out on the watch and the phone. There is no account, no server and no analytics, so the game you played stays on your devices.
Conclusion: Hockeywise is the stronger hockey app
Choose HockeyTracker if you want the app that is already in the store, or you play goal. Choose Hockeywise for everything else. It is the only app in this comparison that finds your shifts, counts shots and face-offs by type, shows bench recovery and the fade chart, and reads the game back to you, with nothing uploaded.
